What Is Our History?
The Piedmont Choral Society, organized in September 1997, is the area's only premiere, community based mixed voice choral group. The all-volunteer, auditioned chorus averages 40-50 members and is made up of talented singers from all walks of life, many of which hold professional positions as directors or members of other musical groups and church choirs. The mission of the Piedmont Choral Society is to offer area vocalists a challenging, managed, artistic outlet to provide high-caliber, professional performances of both sacred and secular choral masterworks, and to use their musical talents to serve the community. The chorus employs a full time qualified staff consisting of a music director and accompanist.
Professional instrumental musicians are often brought in as orchestral accompaniment for concerts as well. PCS is governed by a board of directors, led by an elected president and relies upon the activities of many volunteer members of the chorus and community. The chorus takes on an ambitious schedule of concerts and services throughout each season, including two Christmas Concerts and two Spring Concerts. In addition to the group’s formal concerts, they perform for local civic special events and in area venues such as nursing and assisted living centers.
In 2004, the group instituted a Patriotic Benefit Concert that takes place in late June. Proceeds from this annual concert are given to a chosen local non-profit organization. Another well-received annual event is the “Old Fashioned Hymn Sing” presented each fall, accompanied by a canned food drive which has brought in over ½ ton of food for the Cabarrus Christian Ministry to distribute. Songs from WWII and a program of love songs have also been presented.
The Piedmont Choral Society is an independent organization supported in part by the generosity of supporting members, individuals, corporations and public sources. The Piedmont Choral Society strives to enhance the educational and cultural activities of the general population of Greater Cabarrus County, without regard to age, race, national origin, or religious background. The Piedmont Choral Society is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization.
